CONTROLLER FOR BATTERY CHARGING STATIONS

  • Electric Vehicles are charged from outlets using charging units called Fast Chargers (FC)
  •  The FCs operate in either of the two modes: 
    1. Stand-alone Mode
    2. Client – Sever Mode
  •  In Client –Server mode, several FC operations are controlled, maintained and monitored by a centralized server called Central System (CS) 
  •  FCs use an internationally agreed upon protocol called the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) to connect to Central System. The connection to server is based on web-sockets 
  •  When an FC is operating as a client, the OCPP protocol conversion and communication is taken care of by a local controller (LC). The controllers inside an FC, are called Charge Box (CB).
